Dear Reader,
I hope you’re ready for a season of peace and joy, wonder and fun. I am, although I suspect this year my calendar won’t be quite so full and I won’t be doing so much thanks to knee surgery.
Much of my partying will probably be with fictional characters as I cuddle up with my very tall pile of holiday reads. But that’s okay because I do enjoy hanging out with fictional characters.
I know you do also, so let me tell you a little bit about the new fictional people in my life, Starr Conner and John Smth. I think Starr would be perfect for a Hallmark movie – small town girl who keeps hoping that some fabulous man will come to town.
Enter John Smith. He’s new to town and he’s fabulous. The only problem is, he’s not only new to town, he’s also new to Earth. Wearing a special birthday suit made from human DNA, John is a tourist from another planet. He’s always wanted to see Earth and this is his one big chance before he has to settle down back on his home planet and stay put. But after seeing the ocean and a beach close up, after trying lattes and hot chocolate, after observing humans celebrating this festival they call Christmas and getting pulled into the fun John’s not so sure he wants to leave. He especially doesn’t want to leave after meeting Starr and getting introduced to that special Earth custom called kissing. Alas, he has to. That borrowed human form will only last him two weeks. If he stays longer Earth’s atmosphere will pierce his disguise and do him in. Talk about star-crossed lovers!
I know, this story is maybe a little out there, but when the idea popped into my head I just had to go for it. I love space movies and one of my favorites was the classic Starman that had Jeff Bridges as a visitor to Earth. That movie was so fun and so romantic. But it was a long time ago, and it seemed like a great idea to bring to life another Starman and let him get a glimpse of Christmas on Earth. It was fun imagining what a being from another planet might think of us all. I can’t help but wonder if some of our earthly misbehavior would be a shock. But I also like to think that the good in us might shine through. I like to think it shines through this time of year when we (hopefully) remember to be kind and generous to each other, when we remember the Reason for the season and spread joy to everyone in our world. I like to think if I met a visitor from another planet I’d be a good ambassador. How about you? What would you do if you found yourself entertaining a stranger from another planet? What customs would you want to introduce that visitor to?
Christmas is my favorite holiday, which might be why I’ve written twenty-five Christmas novels over the years. I have my favorites. This is definitely one of them. I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Merry Christmas!

John Smith is new to the area. Actually, John Smith is new to Earth. Making his visit in the special human form provided for him, he gets to experience a taste of life there. And he’s just in time for the festival called Christmas. Long before he meets Santa, he meets someone even better: Starr.
Starr is thinking her dream man might have finally arrived, but there’s just one problem. Earth’s atmosphere isn’t as welcoming as she is, and much as he wants to, John can’t stay permanently. Can an out of this world love conquer all?
