First, thank you for choosing my book, The First Girl, to jump into and enjoy an escape. It brings happiness to my day know that a new reader has taken a chance on this book. It's my hope that you will be taken on a rollercoaster ride into the life of a cold case detective. There will be plenty of shocking moments as you try to figure out who the killer is. You'll know more about crime scene investigations, forensics, profiling, and what it takes to put all the clues together to solve the case.
Out on her morning run, Detective Katie Scott is stopped in her tracks when her ex-military dog, Cisco, alerts her to something that appears to be a large white bundle. Through the dense forest and weaving through the towering pine trees, Katie is horrified to find a little girl alone in the woods, dressed in a white nightgown where someone's blood is splashed across the garment. The child sobs into Katie’s arms. She’s unharmed, but clearly traumatized. Scooping her up, Katie follows the trail to a large farmhouse. But what she finds there rips the air from her lungs: one, two, three, four bodies laid out side by side, all wearing matching pajamas.
Katie is thrown immediately into the investigation. She was a military explosives K9 team and now a veteran, as well as her dog, Cisco. Now maybe I have your attention? My love for dogs has been for my entire life and I enjoy incorporating dogs into stories. I have two German shepherds that fill my day and are usually nearby when I typing away at the keyboard on my next story.
The investigation gets dicey for Katie at times but that's what makes it fun, for you, the reader. You get to experience everything that Katie does—in your mind of course. It will keep you guessing. You will find that there are more bodies piling up along with a ton of evidence, but the real question is, which pieces of evidence are the real ones. Maybe you'll figure out the culprit before Katie does?
