Dear Reader…
Thank you so much for reading my debut novel Dead Blood City! There are tons of great books out there so, as an indie author, I appreciate you giving my work a chance.
Dead Blood City is a dark, genre-bending urban fantasy that brings together elements from noir detective novels and high fantasy epics. The novel readers called “fast-paced,” “addicting,” and “bloody,” follows Detective Saoirse Reilly as she postpones her own suicide to find a missing child. Inspired by the hardboiled detectives of noir fiction, Reilly is deeply flawed and deeply human. While investigating the kidnapping of Delaney Bascom, she is snared in the supernatural underbelly of Boston, Massachusetts. Throughout her journey she must also contend with harrowing psychic visions of a fantastical world that exists alongside our own. Reilly has the dubious support of Emrys Somerled, a forensic psychologist with a cellar full of secrets, and Domenico Alderisi, an impossibly youthful club owner with a bad habit. Meet these suspicious characters and more as Reilly begins to see her world for what it really is.
I began writing Dead Blood City while working in a psychiatric hospital at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a way, Reilly's story is my own story of trying to save a child from a dark fate. I did not succeed. Soon you'll know if Reilly had the same experience. This project helped me come to terms with my guilt and the trauma of my work. I hope you enjoy the journey and find some value in it.
You can buy Dead Blood City in paperback or for Kindle at Amazon. You can also find me, Jo Denning, at www.jodenning.com or on most social media.
With love,
Jo Denning
Jo Denning is the author of the Saoirse Reilly series. She has spent her career as a behavioral health therapist supporting kids and teens who struggle with addiction. Jo began writing supernatural crime thrillers as a way of processing the traumatic things she has seen and heard. Her characters may be supernatural but their stories, their fear, and their pain are real. So, too, are their triumphs over impossible odds.
When she’s not writing, Jo enjoys baking, drawing, and watching trashy reality TV. She makes her home somewhere in the contiguous United States with her husband, one fluffy cat, and one barely domesticated cat.
Her latest book is the urban fantasy crime thriller, Dead Blood City: Saoirse Reilly Series Book One.
