Dear Reader, Love Patrick Gallagher

Dear Reader,

I truly hope you enjoy reading ‘TIL DEATH DO US . . . A True Crime Story of Bigamy and Murder as much as I enjoyed researching and writing it.  I have striven to make this book as completely accurate historically as possible.  Although some of the dialogue was created by me, even a lot of that was quoted from the trial transcript or other source.

Actually, I didn’t start out that way.  In my first draft I fictionalized and added to the story a lot, particularly about Gladys’ earlier husbands.  Because I could find little more about those husbands than their names, dates of birth and the dates of the weddings, I thought I should embellish the story about them.  I had one husband beating and raping Gladys on their wedding night, other husbands cheating on her, etc.  But then I took a step back and thought about it, and changed my mind.  I mean, these are real people and they most likely have children and grandchildren who are still living.  It seemed so wrong for me to defame their names posthumously, which would be so offensive to anyone who knew and loved them.  Thus, I started over with a commitment to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.  I am convinced that was the right thing to do.

But this is a story about evil.  It is the story about someone who becomes engrossed with evil, who not only can’t seem to overcome it but who embraces it.  I’m not just talking about murder.  I’m talking about breaking the sacred vow to remain married “until death do us part.”  I’m talking about the promise to love, cherish and be faithful for life.  And ultimately, of course, I am talking about the evil of taking the life of another human being.

This also is a story about denial.  It is about the denial that you are being treated harshly and without love by the person you chose to marry.  It is about the denial that your spouse is treating you badly intentionally, that she does not love you the way you thought she would, and should.  It is about being slapped in the face with rejection and dishonor, and refusing to acknowledge it as such.

The question is, what kind of person does these things?  Can you imagine ever acting the way Gladys does?  Can you imagine ever acting the way Willis does?  Have you ever known anyone who acts as either of them does?  As you read this book, think on these questions.

Love,
Patrick Gallagher

About the Book

In August 1945, Gladys Lincoln of Sacramento contacted prosperous Dr. W. D. Broadhurst of Caldwell, Idaho, and rekindled a romance from twenty years earlier.  After many passionate letter exchanges and several sexually-charged meetings, they were married in Reno, Nevada on May 20, 1946.  After a passion-filled three-day weekend together, the doctor returned to his home in Idaho, and Gladys returned to Sacramento … and to her husband, Leslie Lincoln! But Gladys was much more than a bigamist.

Gladys needed something even she didn’t understand.  She married her first husband when she was 20, and her second husband only 14 months later.  The second marriage lasted only two years, the third less than 16 months.  Leslie Lincoln was her fifth, and Dr. Broadhurst became her sixth. But what desperate need drove her to go from marriage to marriage?

Then what dark mindset moved her and her young cowboy chauffeur to commit murder? Find out in ‘TIL DEATH DO US …’ the gripping new true crime from WildBlue Press author Patrick Gallagher whose grandfather was Gladys’ lead defense attorney during her sensational trial.

About the Author

Many have set about in life to tell stories that amaze others. Patrick Gallagher had no such ambition. However, some stories grip us by the collar and demand they be told to the world, and this is what Patrick has been challenged to do. He has been a “jack of all trades, master of one,” the “one” being a U.S. Customs Broker and logistics specialist. But over the curse of a lifetime Patrick has worked as a farm laborer, forest fire fighter, process server, retail store manager, preacher, ware-houseman and dishwasher. However, founding and managing a business in international logistics was the career he loved.

Now retired, Patrick and his wife enjoy their four children and twelve grandchildren, and their home at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Denver, Colorado.
