Publishers Weekly calls Brazen in Blue “heady Regency romance featuring a refreshing
heroine and a tantalizing mystery.” It’s a lovely complement, but it also beautifully sums
up the elements in my novels. I love stories about strong female characters who make
their own decisions and whose decisions have consequences (for good or ill) for
themselves and their communities. I’m not much interested in stories where strong
women, despite their best efforts, are crushed by the world they live in. We get enough of
that on the news.

My historical-romance-mysteries are set in the British Regency, particularly in that
tumultuous period surrounding the Peterloo Massacre. I know the period well, having
taught nineteenth-century literature and book history on the university level. I think of my
heroines as Jane Austen with a magnifying glass, a Scooby-gang of talented women, and
a dashing hero who pushes her buttons (and undoes them).

In Brazen in Blue, Lady Emmeline has always been the responsible one. Left to manage
her family estate when her father runs off to the Continent, Lady Emmeline is set to
marry her best friend, but she knows he loves another. When her former lover arrives, she
sends him a note: “I have need of a scoundrel. Your name came to mind.” It’s an
uncharacteristic act for Lady Emmeline to run—but necessary.

Adam Montclair isn’t the rabble-rousing traitor Lady Emmeline believes him to be.
Instead, he’s a Home Office agent tasked with securing Lady Emmeline’s help, and
helping her run away may be his only chance to resolve his complicated feelings.
Together, they will uncover a traitor and face their own secrets.

If you like mystery with your historical romance (or vice versa), Brazen in Blue—or one

About the Author

Rachael Miles writes ‘cozily scrumptious’ historical romances set in the British Regency.
