Thank
you for your interest in my books! I am super excited for the release of Dark
Justice, because I almost didn’t let it happen. Yes, my own fears and
insecurities, and hiccups along the way almost prevented me from finishing and,
after finishing, from pursuing publication.
Dark
Justice is the hardest book I’ve ever written. A tumultuous relationship
between the hero and heroine, which started as a second-chance romance, soon
turned into enemies to lovers. Many emotional aspects of this novel tore my
soul apart at times. And re-developing the relationship between Luke and Lauren
once Luke was released from prison was fun, exciting, and challenging.
I’m
excited for the reviews so far on NetGalley. Reviews such as:
“This romantic suspense will keep you engaged until the
very end.”
“Great, great story from beginning to end. Combination of
love, betrayal, action, and forgiveness.”
“The story is heartbreaking and fulfilling at the same time.
There are moments when I had to stop reading because the events are pulling my
heart strings and had to stay away for a few hours.”
Writing Dark Justice definitely pulled at my heartstrings as
well.
I married my high school sweetheart. Luke and Laruen were
high school sweethearts. I work for a District
Attorney’s Office, where I have been for twenty-one years now. I used my
knowledge from working there to fuel this novel. In my writing, I’m often asked
what came first, character or plot. In this book, the character came first,
specifically Luke who returns to his small town after his release. And Lauren,
who works as a victim coordinator for the same District Attorney’s Office that
prosecuted him. And later she learns that another person she trusted could be
the real killer.
So many good, juicy events, along with tough and traumatic happenings
in this novel. One key element was that Lauren was pregnant with Luke’s child
when he was sentenced to prison twelve years ago. She fled with her secret
baby, and now that he’s out, she must keep their daughter a secret.
As a writer, I will continue to face insecurities that so
many creatives face, especially when we put our creative work out there, but
writers must write, and creatives must create!
Thanks so much for reading!
Love,
Angela Smith
About the Author
Angela Smith is a Texas native who, years ago, was dubbed most likely to
write a novel during her senior year in high school. She always had her nose
stuck in a book, even hiding them behind her textbooks during school study
time. Her dream began at a young age when her sister started reciting ‘Brer
Rabbit’ after their mom read it to them so often. She told her mom she’d write
a story one day and never gave up on that dream even though her mom was never
able to see it come to fruition. By day, she works as a certified paralegal and
office manager at her local District Attorney’s office and spends her free time
with her husband, their pets, and their many hobbies. Although life in general
keeps her very busy, her passion for writing and getting the stories out of her
head tends to make her restless if she isn’t following what some people call
her destiny.
