Dear Reader…
I’m so happy to be able to share my book, Finders Keepers, with you. This story
about three lost and broken people who find healing, forgiveness and redemption
with each other is very special to me. Although it’s set in the “near future”
(maybe fifty years from now), there’s a very a nostalgic feel to it. At least I
think it does. Of course, to the characters, our future is their past; so that only makes sense!
The story is set around the Christmas holidays. Two of the
three main characters, Sally and Aldo, have a lot of history together. They
spend a good part of the book remembering past events, past lovers, past
Christmases, etc. They cling to traditions—trimming the tree, baking cookies,
recreating the meals they enjoyed in the past, lovingly maintaining a cast iron
pan that’s been handed down for generations. And, generally, do what they can
to keep the past alive.
The third character, Caleb, has no memory at all of his
past. Even though it’s obvious that the others are dealing with memories and
events that were painful to live though, Caleb still envies them. When he’s
offered the chance to, possibly, regain his lost memories he jumps at the
chance.
The message of the book is similar to most of the books I
write: the importance of family, of love, of maintaining our connections with
each other in a world that can leave us feeling very disconnected, very much
alone. What makes the book different from most of the others is that, this
time, the story comes wrapped in the guise of a sexy science fiction romance
set in a not-quite-dystopian future.
Most of the time, it’s hard to pinpoint the exact moment
when a story starts to take shape in my mind. Story ideas come to me in many
ways. A single sentence, an interesting
news story, an image that captures my imagination, an overheard conversation,
or maybe a song lyric. The way in which I first came up with the idea for Finders Keepers was very different from
any of those. The story came to me in a dream. I woke up following a very long,
convoluted dream about a widow and two men—her new (potential) lover, and her
best friend. As I pieced together what I remembered of the dream, I quickly
realized that I wasn’t looking at a potential story idea at all, but an entire
story. Most of the hard work of writing the book involved putting the weird,
futuristic elements into some kind of context.
The world the story is set in is rather grim: the United
States has fallen to pieces (much as happened with the USSR back in ’91), the
military has become entirely privatized, human life is cheap, and people
routinely lease out their bodies and minds to corporations to alter and exploit
as they see fit. All of this is merely backdrop, of course. The real story
centers around human emotions, human relationships and, of course—this is a romance after all—around love.
As an author, I’m a big fan of series, so I’ve been asked
more than once about whether there will be a sequel. At this point, I think
not. While I would love to write more about these characters, I can’t quite see
how a sequel would make sense. Perhaps someday I’ll write a series of short
stories set during the years the characters spend apart from one another, but
for now, Finders Keepers will have to
remain a stand-alone story.
I hope you enjoy it.

About the Author
PG Forte inhabits a world only slightly less strange than
the ones she creates. Filled with serendipity, coincidence, love at first sight
and dreams come true.
She wrote her first serialized story when she was still in her teens. The sexy, ongoing adventure tales were very popular at her oh-so-proper, all girls, Catholic High School, where they helped to liven up otherwise dull classes...even if her teachers didn't always think so.
Originally a Jersey girl, PG now resides with her family on the extreme left coast where she writes contemporary and paranormal romance in a variety of sub-genres.
PG loves hearing from readers. She can be reached directly at: pgforte@pgforte.com

About the Book:
Sometimes finding what you
want is the easy part.
Caleb is a bionic soldier with little-to-no memory of his past. Aldo's an undercover cop who's searching for the man who got away. Then there's Sally, an ER physician who used to be married to Aldo's late partner, Davis. Sally's just looking for a reason to keep on getting up every day.
This holiday season, chance will bring them together and give them an opportunity to help one another find what they each want most. But every gift comes with a price. And keeping what they've found once they've found it? Yeah, that's gonna be the hard part.
