Dear Reader by Sharon Struth

Dear Reader…

The evolution of The To-Do List happened innocently one morning as I left an exercise class. A good friend of mine, also taking the class, turned to me and said, “I finally filed those divorce papers at the courthouse yesterday.” She laughed. “The only way I could get it done was to add it to my to-do list.”

I chuckled and remarked how it would be a great start to a book, but the short episode wouldn’t leave my head. I began to think about why a simple list can make someone feel better, and ended up turning to my own roots as someone who finds bliss in the feeling of control. I’ll guess I’m not the only one out there with this quirk, so I felt creating the character of Maggie Harris—a woman who has good reason to want to feel in control of her adult life—would be relatable to readers.

Set along the Connecticut shoreline in a small, fictional New England town, this story brings together past loves, a current mystery, the quest to find out what really happened when Maggie’s father left their family decades earlier, and a little comedy to round it all out. While Cooper Stanton tries to solve the threat for Maggie to leave town, she can’t help but to try to grab the reins…after all, she’s got a few control issues.

If you’re willing to take a chance on this story, there’s also a very human element. Maggie and Coop have history, but they went their separate ways after high school. Only Maggie took with her a secret she never told Coop. Well, she tried to tell him, but it never quite happened. She’s returned to her hometown after twenty years to reopen her aunt’s old bookstore the secret coming between them begs to be told. Only how, and as their old feelings for each other return, how will he react to the news?

If you’re looking for a book that’s a little different, give The To-Do List a try.
